As the former gatehouse to Eden Hall Mansion, Khari sits beside grand pillars marking the entrance to Edenhall Estate. The architecturally magnificent building was designed by Sir Robert Smirke, who was also responsible for designing the iconic Royal opera house and the British museum.
The owner has lovingly restored this historical abode with a beautiful mix of reclaimed fixtures and original fittings to create a soothing escape from everyday life. This honey-hued home offers an abundance of space for couples looking to retreat to the Lakes, with three marvelous sitting rooms, a romantic bedroom, and a charming garden, complete with a bubbling wood-fired hot tub for magical moments alfresco. Explore your splendid surroundings, taking in the beauty of the Cumbrian countryside and reconnect with nature.
Living
With three beautiful lounge areas, there's ample space to relax and unwind after days spent exploring the Lake District. The formal sitting room, with vibrant William Morris Bellflowers wallpaper and a plush velvet sofa in deep purple is a soothing space to enjoy calming retreat moments. Light the fire and embrace your tranquil surroundings, curling up with a gripping page turner. Wild deer can often be spotted grazing from the grand lounge windows, a magical sight to behold in such an idyllic setting.
Retreat to the relaxed sitting room for movie nights, with a Smart TV and a soft grey corner sofa, dressed in neutral cushions and throws, just made for such cosy moments. You'll also find a beautiful feature marble fireplace and lamps to set the mood.
A snug study, in rich earthy tones, offers the perfect space for those looking to catch up on an email or two, with a Marshall radio to soundtrack your soothing holiday playlist. You'll also find a selection of board games and books in the small library of popular literary tales.
Eating
The modern-rustic kitchen, brimming with quirky features has everything you should need during your staycation, including an oven, hob, a washing machine, dishwasher, and the essential Nespresso coffee machine for wake-me-up moments. You'll also find a rustic dining table set within the kitchen.
Through the kitchen door, you'll find a cosy, enclosed courtyard garden with a table and chairs and twinkling fairy lights, the perfect spot for indulgent brunches - or perhaps a cocktail under the stars beside the warmth of the chiminea.
Sleeping
Seek blissful slumbers and countryside scenes in the romantic master bedroom, where dark oak flooring and neutral tones promise a restful night. You'll find a king-sized bed, beautifully topped with plump cushions and cosy bedding, along with an antique olive-toned chest of drawers and two bedside tables.
Bathing
With rustic beams, jute accessories and marbled tiling, the stylish bathroom is a sanctuary for those looking to unwind. You'll find a jet-black rolltop bathtub just made for candlelit soaks, along with a sleek freestanding shower.
Outside space
Step outside to find the stunning and spacious lawned garden. You'll find a wooden bench for relaxed lunches, whilst the teak garden table and chairs provide an enchanting setting for alfresco evening dining. Perfectly secluded and tucked amongst the trees, you will find the wood-fired hot tub, a romantic spot for spellbinding nights spent under starry skies. Babies and children are most welcome at Khari. One cot and highchair will be available on request.
Dogs
Two dogs are most welcome at Khari. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

There is parking for two vehicles just beside the retreat.

Khari sits on Edenhall Estate in the picturesque Cumbrian countryside and is wonderfully situated for exploring the all-year round magic of the Lake District. The market town of Penrith is just a few miles away, with a variety of mouth-watering eateries, from hearty pubs to award-winning restaurants. Literary enthusiasts rejoice, the homes of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth both reside in the Lake District and are well worth a day trip to retrace the steps that inspired these famous authors. Ullswater, the third deepest lake in the country, is also well worth a visit, with its epic mountain backdrop providing spectacular views both by foot and by car.
