Living
The living areas of Tigh an Tobair propose a new kind of magic. Utterly enchanting with social spaces, cosy corners and expansive views of Loch Dunvegan, this halcyon haven invites for year-round sojourns. The heart of the home, the open-plan lounge features a beautiful lounge and dining area and adjoins both the kitchen and a gorgeous snug. Perfect for summer, large windows and sliding patio doors bring the outside in and connect the room with the outside deck, while in winter, delicious underfloor heating and sheepskin throws add comfort and warmth.
Take a seat in the triple-aspect lounge, furnished by Neptune throughout, and enjoy the cinematic views from the large, floor-to-ceiling windows of Loch Dunvegan and the landscapes of the Outer Hebrides. Curl up with a warming hot drink or glass of something special, looking out for magnificent orcas in the sea by day and the ethereal northern lights in the sky by night. In the snug, you can find a 77-inch television perfect for movie nights, complete with LG Soundbar, Meridian Audio, Blu-Ray DVD player and more. Cosy up on one of the large sofas or armchairs and enjoy the warmth of the three-sided fireplace as the opening credits roll, or gather together over a board game as your favourite soundtrack plays.
Eating and dining
Tigh an Tobair's Neptune Pink Peppercorn kitchen flows from the open-plan dining area and creates a wonderful space for preparing family repasts. Imbuing a peaceful ambience, it is finished with soft, soothing shades that are mirrored in matching cushions and throws throughout the lounge. Ensuring you have everything you need, the well-equipped kitchen features an array of appliances and accoutrements, including an Everhot stove, Quooker tap and, for those leisurely mornings and cosy eves, a Nespresso coffee machine and Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser. Ready to join guests over full plates and sparkling flutes, a round dining table takes pride of place next to the kitchen, overlooking the garden and the island beyond.
Sleeping and bathing
The Green Room, is home to an oh-so-cosy king size bed adorned with buttery soft, organic cotton sheets and topped with a quilted bedspread and plump pillows. Stylishly curated, it is furnished with two bedside tables and features large drawers and ample hanging space for belongings. Tempting for slow mornings, it affords incredible views of Loch Dunvegan that can be enjoyed from comforting linens. It also features its own ensuite shower room with underfloor heating.
The Pink Room promises a welcome sanctuary in which to enjoy restful nights. Centred around a king size bed, it radiates utmost comfort with the finest linens, pillows and cosy throws for sweet relaxation. You'll find two bedside tables, a chest of drawers and hanging space for storing treasures. A large window with blinds allows natural light to flood the room, while elegant lamps provide ambient lighting for nighttime reads. This bedroom is finished with its own ensuite shower room with underfloor heating.
A delightful space, The Blue Room promises a large bed that can be styled as a super king or as two full-size singles as required. Dressed in calming tones, it features statement wainscoting and tasteful furnishings for understated elegance. Across the hall, you will find a wet room with the addition of underfloor heating.
Separate from the main house, Tigh an Tobair's beautiful annexe enjoys an additional bedroom with a super king bed dressed in silky soft sheets. Lovingly designed, it has two bedside tables, a chest of drawers, dressing table, generous hanging space and a Smart TV. It also boasts an electric fireplace for added cosiness in winter. The pièce de résistance, its ensuite bathroom presents a free-standing bath set below a skylight - perfect for watching the Northern Lights during bubble-topped soaks.
A final bathroom is located in the cloakroom, adjacent to the utility area. All bathrooms enjoy heated towel rails and are supplied with the fluffiest towels and Arran toiletries.
Outside space
The outdoor space of this gorgeous island home is a real haven. Unfurling into the wild landscapes that surround it, it depicts a verdant picture of steep banks, grassy swathes and a silvery stream flowing through the garden. Calling for sun-kissed moments and peaceful evenings under wide skies, a large wooden deck resides outside with a dining table and cushion-topped chairs for eight people and a built-in BBQ. Adding extra magic for wildlife watching and aurora gazing, a viewing area with a wood burner and benches presides over the garden, while the star of the show, a Scandinavian hot tub with soothing salts, sits on the decking below. Curl up fireside under the cosy folds of weighty blankets or take a warming dip in the wood-fired hot tub and bask in the unrivalled beauty of this breathtaking pocket of Hebridean heaven. Please note that the hot tub is a fresh water tub with no added chemicals.
Parking
There is private parking for up to five cars at Tigh an Tobair with access to an electric car charging point. Please bring your own charging cable with you.
Babies and children
Babies and children are most welcome at Tigh an Tobair. A highchair and travel cot are available on request. Please note that there are a number of steps, streams and cattle grids within and around the retreat, so children and infants must be supervised at all times.
Dogs
We are unable to welcome pets at Tigh an Tobair, but please note that this retreat may not be suitable for guests with pet allergies.
In the Area
The Isle of Skye is renowned for its otherworldly natural beauty, blending magnificent mountains, soulful lakes, windswept moorland, ancient woodland and white-sand beaches together into one enrapturing tapestry. With so much to see and do on the doorstep of Tigh an Tobair, you can seize the opportunity to experience both local walks and attractions and take unforgettable road trips around the island. Some of Skye's best beauty spots, Coral Beach near Claigan, The Fairy Glen in Uig and The Fairy Pools of Glen Brittle are all strong contenders for wanderlust seekers. For walkers, The Old Man of Storr on the island's Trotternish Peninsula is also a real highlight, traced by a popular hiking route and showcasing far-reaching panoramas across Skye and The Sound of Raasay.
To journey back in time, Dunvegan Castle is a wonderful attraction within the 42,000-acre MacLeod Estate. Meanwhile, for dramatic views, Neist Point Lighthouse on the most westerly tip of Skye is hard to beat. Once you're ready to refuel, a number of wonderful eateries can be found around the island. Close to Tigh an Tobair, The Three Chimneys restaurant offers upscale dining and is renowned for its fresh local fare. In Dunvegan, a meal at Old School Restaurant is highly recommended for its modern Scottish cuisine, while The Dunvegan restaurant, coffee shop and deli present an array of sweet and savoury treats. Loch Bay Michelin star restaurant in Stein is another North Skye gem; however, if you'd like to venture a little further, Café Cùil in Carbost, Edinbane Inn and Birch in Portree, and Scorrybreac Restaurant in Scorrybreac all serve delicious menus composed of seasonal local produce.
