Out & About

Whether you are looking forward to halcyon days by the shore in the heat of summer or can’t wait to snuggle up in a luxury retreat for a gorgeous winter getaway, our boutique self-catering cottages near Holywell Bay provide all the ingredients for the holiday of a lifetime. Beckoning for days immersed in salty air with the sand between your toes and glistening droplets of seawater drying on your skin, this sublime section of coast is everything you could imagine it to be and more. Sheltered by dunes, embraced by greenery-clad headlands and met by turquoise waters, hours will fly by here reading books, playing games and running in and out of the sea. At low tide, spy the remains of an old Argentinian coaster and tour the grotto-like Holywell Cave, and at high tide retreat to the upper reaches of this dog-friendly beach, dragging out each minute before packing up and making tracks to one of the area’s eateries to refuel or your luxury homestay to rinse off and unwind.

Ideally located for scouting out refreshments and food, Holywell Bay has plenty going on for foodies. A quaint thatched pub slap-bang in the middle of Holywell village, the Treguth Inn is great for filling empty tums with hearty meals or sharing a medley of bar snacks with a drop or two of vino. Also in the village, St Pirans Inn is a lovely spot for a local brew after a day in the waves. Slightly further afield, you will find the Smuggler’s Den Inn in Cubert, a 16th Century thatched inn, and the Plume of Feathers in Mitchell, a historic coaching inn. To further satisfy your quest for cuisine, Perranporth is around 5 miles away which, as well as being home to the UK’s only beach bar, boasts a wide assortment of restaurants and cafés. If the only thing on your mind is hurrying back to your luxury pad for a night of relaxation in the comforts of your private retreat, each of our self-catering cottages is fully-equipped with everything you could need and more for cooking up romantic dinners and family feasts the Michelin brothers would be proud of.

A real haven for those who love salty skin and sun-streaked hair, Holywell Bay is the place dreams are made of. If you are visiting in summer, bag up some water, sun cream, towels and swimming costumes and indulge in hours of stress-free fun. A huge expanse of golden sand, this dog-friendly beach has something for everyone; whether you are most at home surfing, exploring the caves, playing frisbee with the dog or enjoying an unforgettable sundowner wrapped in blankets and toasting to another day well spent. Don’t think that the fun stops out of summer though; winter is a magical time in this idyllic corner of the county. Nothing will beat bundling up in layers and going for a walk along the empty shore in the shoulder months or watching mighty waves crash against the beach’s iconic stacks soaring from the sea. If you want to venture further afield, Holywell sits betwixt the seaside hub of Perranporth and the thriving town of Newquay, both proffering lots of choice for sight-seers, sun-bathers and soul-searchers.
