Boutique Cottages in Thirsk

Set between the majestic North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, the historic market town of Thirsk is a must visit in the area for its traditional feel and oh-so-pretty setting.

Thirsk may be best known for being the home of England’s best-loved vet, James Herriot, and it’s clear to see why he chose this stunning place, being surrounded by so much beautiful countryside. If you’re a fan, Thirsk has its own ‘World of James Herriot’ where his original surgery has been restored to how it looked when he practiced.

The natural beauty of Thirsk and its surrounds is awe-inspiring, and a big draw for lovers of the great outdoors. From hiking to pony trekking, you’ll be hard pushed to find a better spot to explore, including the magnificent Lake Gormire which is only half a mile away, whilst history lovers will enjoy discovering the abbeys, monasteries and castles that dot the rugged landscape.

There’s a good selection of independent shops here set around the medieval central square, as well as a good selection of inns and eateries - from tea rooms to restaurants - so you’ll never go hungry! If you fancy a flutter, Thirsk has its own racecourse whilst there’s a bird of prey centre for animal lovers.
