Magical Weekend Moments at The Mariner's House

Magical Weekend Moments at The Mariner's House

As the weekend drew nearer, we packed up the car in anticipation and headed towards the port town of Fowey, where a dreamy weekend would be spent at The Mariner's House. Driving down the narrow picturesque streets, we pulled up outside the darling property which welcomes up to eight guests and two small dogs.

We entered the retreat, luggage patiently waiting by the door and excitedly began to explore the five floors of heaven, eager to start the weekend of adventures. From the two spacious bedrooms on the first floor, to the beautiful bedrooms on the top floor complete with their own Juliet balcony, each room was dressed in White Company linen, and offered a luxurious touch. All four bedrooms are utterly divine - no room without the views of Fowey River.

Once we had chosen our desired rooms for the weekend we headed down and gathered in the large open-plan kitchen and dining room, where we were greeted by a generous welcome hamper brim-full of local treats which we could not wait to tuck into. With a bottle in hand, we popped the cork, turned on the Sonos and sat down to feast upon delicious our banquet from the local fish and chip shop, savouring every bite.

Dining at The Mariner's House

Feeling full and content, we wandered upstairs where we could choose from either the spacious sitting room or cosy media room. Deciding on the living room, we struck a match to light the wood burning stove and settled in for the first evening, complete with a delectable cheeseboard full of artisan delights, we lulled the night away.

We awoke the next day to the warm spring sunshine, and indulged in a slow morning in bed, with the soft sound of birds and ever-changing views of Fowey River. This was combined with a heavenly pastry from Quay Bakery, a short stroll away from The Mariner's House which we enjoyed in bed, whilst sipping away a fresh cup of coffee straight from the Nespresso coffee machine.

Walking out into the crisp spring air, we strolled into Fowey centre and pottered around the independent shops, each one different and distinctive with much to see for every age, alongside a variety of local cafes, should you wish to relax and take in the historic surroundings. Complete with a cup of coffee from Mardy Bakery, we continued our stroll to Ready Money beach, 10-minutes to the south of the harbour town of Fowey. Sheltered by cliffs, the golden sand and glistening water was enjoyed by many sea swimmers and dogs alike. Dog-friendly for the majority of the year and complete with a beach café and gift shop, this is a perfect location for all seasons.

To the left of the beach, we followed the coast path up to St Catherine’s Castle, a historical tower used to protect Fowey’s harbour in the 1500’s, with breath-taking 360 degree views into Fowey and Polruan, we felt like we had gone back in time.

Upon our return back to our homestay, we visited the Gallants Club which is situated in front of The Mariner's House, sipping a drink whilst watching the local gig rowers and kayaks enjoying their daily dose of the fresh March air.

Arriving back to The Mariner's House after a full day of exploring, we settled in for the afternoon reminiscing on the adventures that had already taken place, filled with excitement and anticipation for the rest to come. Ahead of our evening meal out, I took the opportunity to amble to the top floor, where a bathtub of dreams awaited. Candles lit and a glass of bubbles in hand, I put on a calming playlist and relaxed the afternoon away.

As the evening drew in and the sun set on Fowey, we got ready for our evening meal and headed to the restaurant - Sam’s. Having stumbled across Sam’s whilst exploring Fowey on the main high street, we knew exactly where we wanted to go and the dishes we would choose. The fun, bright interiors paired with the delicious food made for a perfect evening. As we made our way back to the property, we finished the dreamiest of days with a game of Scrabble in the media room, with the fire lit and drinks poured.

 Evenings at The Mariner's House

After what was the most relaxing sleep, we opened the beautiful handmade shutters, where the morning sun light streamed through. Not wanting to depart from this piece of paradise, we made the most of our final morning, and cooked up the goodies left for us in the welcome hamper, fresh eggs and bread from Niles bakery. Wanting to explore the area, we ventured down to Fowey Harbour where we caught the boat across to Poluran. Here we walked around the village, and enjoyed the view of Fowey from another side. We continued our morning and we made our way down the coast to picturesque village of Charleston, a short 10 minute drive from Fowey. Here we strolled through harbour and small Boutique shops and delighted in all they had to offer.

Following the final few hours of exploring, we sadly bid farewell to The Mariner's House and began the drive home. We can all agree that our stay at The Mariner's House was a dream, and one that can be enjoyed by families and couples alike.
