Welcome to paradise! Dawnsmen, nestled in the wonderfully untouched wilds of West Penwith in Cornwall, is a gorgeously luxurious homestay for six lucky people. Inspired by the Neolithic settlements found in the area, the clever owners have created a retreat hidden away in its own private space within a unique walled garden. The house itself, of wood and stone design, is just incredible with sumptuous interiors, underfloor heating throughout, a hot tub and two huge wood burners - one inside and one outside. With expansive gardens, this is a wonderful dog-friendly getaway, whilst it's also perfectly located to explore the far west of Cornwall from St Michael's Mount all the way around to St Ives.
Special 'Just for Two' rate
A special 'Just for Two' rate applies at Dawnsmen and the discount is 10%. When Dawnsmen is booked for two guests this is on the basis that only the master bedroom is used during your stay.
If you have any queries or would like to book, please don't hesitate to get in touch on 01872 553 491 or email enquiries@boutique-retreats.co.uk.
Larger parties
For those looking to escape with larger parties, Velansaga, which welcomes eight, and Sanctuary, which welcomes four, are both close by. If you wish to book these retreats too, you can find Velansaga here and Dawnsmen here, or call us for more information.
Living and eating
Just wow! The wonderful open plan living and eating space is just perfect for a get-together, whether you are a family or group of friends. The room itself is just lovely, with wooden beams, vaulted ceiling, wooden floor and glass windows encircling the room, plus doors that open out onto the terrace - perfect for bringing the outside in.
The pretty kitchen, in shades of green, has a fabulous Everhot range cooker, Belfast sink, marble worktop and all the other essentials needed to rustle up feasts plus a breakfast bar for on-the-go meals.
Next to the kitchen lies the large dining table which easily seats eight, whilst the lovely sitting area has a large sofa in front of the 55" Smart 4K OLED TV and two occasional chairs nestled around an immense wood burning stove.
Sleeping
There are three beautiful bedrooms to choose from. The master en suite bedroom has a super-cosy six-foot super king bed, 40" Smart TV plus double glass doors that lead out onto a private patio with table and chairs - perfect for breakfast or coffee a deux.
The second bedroom, with dual-aspect windows, has a five-foot bed which is zip-and-link, meaning it can be a king-size bed or twin beds, and has use of the lovely family bathroom. The third en suite bedroom also has a zip-and-link bed, meaning it can either be three foot twin beds or a six foot super king bed, and dual-aspect windows. Both the second and third bedroom each have a 32" Smart TV.
Bathing
The master bedroom and third bedroom each have a glorious en-suite shower room, whilst the second bedroom has use of the family bathroom which has a lovely, deep bath. There are heated rails in both bathrooms to keep towels warm and fluffy.
Outdoor space
Dawnsmen really feels like a retreat hidden away from the world. Fully encircled by an astonishing stone wall, all of which was recovered from the surrounding farm during construction, this is a fully enclosed space brought together by impressive gates which came from the Ark Royal. There's plenty of grassy lawn, perfect for little ones and dogs too. Sheltered underneath Dawnsmen's pergola lies a gorgeously bubbling hot tub, outdoor Chesney wood burner, barbeque and seating - perfect for outside living. Or throw open the large sliding glass doors on to the two sun-soaked terraces, each with a set of tables and chairs, made for alfresco dining. Once the sun sets, the gardens and pergola light up to create an idyllic nighttime space.
Parking
There is plenty of private, off road parking.

In the Area
You'll be spoilt for things to do in the far west of Cornwall, from St Michael's Mount on the south coast to St Ives on the north. There are plenty of countryside walks to enjoy from Dawnsmen whilst you'll find several stunning beaches just a short drive away. Gorgeous Sennen is just one of many to mention and has the most beautiful of beaches - a massive swathe of golden sand lined with houses, shops and places to eat.
No trip to the far west would be complete without visiting the incredible Minack Theatre and Porthcurno beach. If you manage to catch a play (May to September) be ready to be wowed with the most spectacular backdrop - and they carry on whatever the weather, so be prepared! If you can't make a show, you can still pay this iconic landmark a visit as it is open all day for visitors to look around. After exploring, you can climb down to the golden sands of the beach.
The coastline from Mousehole via Sennen to St Ives is spectacular, so head for the South West Coast Path for some incredible walks and stunning vistas. There are delightful coves to explore nearby at Lamorna, St Loy and Penberth and dramatic cliff-top views all the way to Porthgwarra and Land's End. St Ives itself is an artistic and bustling seaside town and is home to the Tate, plus there are plenty of beaches, shops and places to eat. In summer, it's worth heading to Lelant for the park and ride, catching the train, which runs along the Hayle Estuary and coast into the centre.
Centrally located near St Buryan, Dawnsmen is an excellent base from which to explore the ancient sites of West Penwith including, notably, megalithic stone circles including The Merry Maidens just a mile away, and Boscawen-un, as well as Lanyon Quoit dolmen, and other standing stones such as The Pipers and Mên-an-Tol.
