Living

This extraordinary home has lots of fabulous living areas, making it a wonderful home whether you want to congregate together or find your own peaceful space. At the centre of Velansaga lies the sumptuous sitting room, in deeply patinated woods, corniced ceilings and rich, earthy tones. With a gloriously huge wood burner at its centre, this is a wonderful place to gather at the end of a busy days' exploring.

At the furthest end is a bright and beautiful sunroom. Flooded with light, this is a lovely space for yoga or meditation, or simply a more peaceful and private spot to relax and read with French doors leading on to the second terrace. In addition, there's a further seating area nestled around the wood burner in the kitchen.

If you need to make your stay a bit of a workcation, there is also an office with WiFi-enabled printer, desk and chair.

Eating

The incredibly spacious, oak-framed kitchen is truly spectacular. Fronted by a large oak dining table that seats ten, the room has floor-to-ceiling glass windows with panoramic views across the lawn and fields, with bi-fold doors that open on the large terrace.

The slate-topped kitchen itself boasts a stunning reclaimed Victorian ironmongers cabinet with massive glass fronted illuminated shelves, but don't be fooled - it's also equipped with all the integrated mod cons needs to create fabulous feasts, from the induction hob and oven, dishwasher and all the other essentials to the all-important Nespresso coffee machine.

To add extra cosiness, there's an Esse iron heart wood burning stove and cooker, plus three sofas and an armchair for extra comfort - the perfect spot for post-dinner coffee.

In addition, there's also a pizza oven on the terrace behind the sunroom and ideal for a creative gathering - younger ones especially like to create their own pizzas!

There's also an utility room which is home to the washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a boot room that's handy for stowing boots and a downstairs shower room for rinsing off and storing wetsuits.

Sleeping and bathing

There are four gorgeous bedrooms to choose from, all on the first floor accessed via the stunning oak staircase.

The master bedroom lies on the first floor to one end and has fabulous, 180-degree views over the countryside and Lamorna Valley towards Mount's Bay and Lizard Point lighthouse - which at night provides an ever-flashing reminder that the Atlantic Ocean is so very close at hand. With a sumptuous 6ft super king bed, night times are blissfully luxurious whilst the en suite bathroom with Victoria + Albert freestanding bath is made for long soaks. There's also a fabulous secret walk-in wardrobe - can you spot it?

Situated at the other end of the first floor lies the stunning, spacious guest en suite with its own entrance hall, original artwork, epic views, and a writing desk and chair, should you need to catch up on an email or two during your stay. Step inside and there's a comfy zip-and-link super king bed, which can also be set as twins, a gorgeous chaise lounge, dual-aspect windows, plenty of storage and en suite shower room.

In between these two rooms lies a super-sweet twin bedroom - perfect for little ones and a fourth bedroom with pretty abstract prints and another 6ft zip-and-link super king bed, which can also be set as twins for flexible sleeping arrangements. These two bedrooms share the family bathroom which has a contemporary freestanding Victoria + Albert bath.

In addition, there's a further wet room on the ground floor with shower, long Villeroy & Boch rinsing sink and loo.

Outdoor space

Step through the glass bifold doors in the kitchen and you'll find yourself on a sun-soaked terrace, overlooking the large lawned garden with a natural pond (this is fenced off). On the terrace are rattan armchairs with coffee tables, plus a dining table, chairs and a Chesney wood burning barbeque for alfresco meals and to keep you warm at night.

Velansaga also has the dreamy addition of a hot tub - the perfect spot to unwind with a glass in hand under the stars.

In addition, there's a second terrace area near the pizza oven, with its own full wicker glass top table and wicker dining chairs for eight to catch the last of the light and enjoy a family meal creating your own pizzas.

The lawn offers plenty of room for children and dogs to play, whilst it's flat enough for a game of croquet or football.

In the Area

You'll be spoilt for things to do in the far west of Cornwall, from St Michael's Mount on the south coast to St Ives on the north. There are plenty of countryside walks to enjoy from the property whilst you'll find several stunning beaches just a short drive away. Gorgeous Sennen is just one of many to mention and has the most beautiful of beaches - a massive swathe of golden sand lined with houses, shops and places to eat.

No trip to the far west would be complete without visiting the incredible Minack Theatre and Porthcurno beach. If you manage to catch a play (May to September) be ready to be wowed with the most spectacular backdrop - and they carry on whatever the weather, so be prepared! If you can't make a show, you can still pay this iconic landmark a visit as it is open all day for visitors to look around. After exploring, you can climb down to the golden sands of the beach.

The coastline from Mousehole via Sennen to St Ives is spectacular, so head for the South West Coast Path for some incredible walks and stunning vistas. There are delightful coves to explore nearby at Lamorna, St Loy and Penberth and dramatic cliff-top views all the way to Porthgwarra and Land's End. St Ives itself is an artistic and bustling seaside town and is home to the Tate, plus there are plenty of beaches, shops and places to eat. In summer, it's worth heading to St Erth for the park and ride, catching the train, which runs along the Hayle Estuary and coast into the centre.

Centrally located near St Buryan, Velansaga is an excellent base from which to explore the ancient sites of West Penwith including, notably, megalithic stone circles including The Merry Maidens just a mile away, and Boscawen-un, as well as Lanyon Quoit dolmen, and other standing stones such as The Pipers and Mên-an-Tol.

Understated luxury awaits at our dog friendly retreat for eight in west Cornwall, an exquisite symphony of glass and wood, with a wood burner and hot tub.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Velansaga:

Wow, what a stunning property, it surpassed expectations. We were hooked from the moment we stepped inside. Beautifully styled, comfortable, incredibly spacious, very well equipped and in a quiet location with lovely views. Perfect for 2 families; homely with plenty of options for spending time together, enjoying separate activities or relaxing. We had a fantastic stay and absolutely loved Velansaga.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Velansaga. It exceeded all our expectations and we can’t wait to come back again.

Lovely house and garden grounds with spectacular views. Big, spacious and modern home with with everything you need for a great holiday.

We had an amazing time at Velansaga. It is a beautiful property with great family spaces in and outside, and was a fantastic base to explore West Cornwall during the week we spent there. We particularly enjoyed early mornings and late evenings gazing across the fields from the hot tub, sitting around the fire after dinner, and playing with the cat who was a regular visitor during our stay.

A truly remarkable property that needs to be seen to be believed. Idyllic countryside with dreamy panoramic views. A dream home from home.

Thank you for making this lovely home available for our family to have a very memorable experience. The views are spectacular from every room. The selection of books are amazing. Someone really thought about planning the guests stays come rain or shine. The kitchen is so well equipped it is a true inspiration to create great meals. We look forward to returning to this 5 Star retreat!

The house is a well appointed American style country home.We had a family getaway which was well served by this well appointed home.It is close to lovely spots like Lands end,Lamorna cove ,Sennen and Mousehole.

Such a beautiful house with the comfiest beds, we did not want to leave! Perfect location too, just a short distance to our favourite place, Lamorna Cove. We even spotted dolphins on our last day to finish our holiday perfectly.

Stunning Property with all the amenities you could wish for. Lovely seating area was perfect for welcoming in each new day and watching the sun go down at the end of it. Super location, so tranquil.

Velansaga is a dream retreat; tucked away in the countryside yet close to the coast, this was such a wonderful weekend getaway for us. From the moment we arrived, we fell in love with its peaceful setting, incredible interiors and fabulous champagne welcome. The bedrooms were all lovely, and the huge bath tubs perfect for long soaks. Memorable moments include waking up to see the sun rise and to see a fox and her cubs in the field beyond the garden, and the swoop of a barn owl as evening descended. We fell in love with the open-plan kitchen area, it became our go-to place. There's so much to do here, and we even managed a seaside dip early one day - bliss! Thank you so much for a truly remarkable holiday.

Wonderful house for a family Christmas. The Robertson's and Holifields had a great time - even braved swimming at Sennen on Christmas morning! We loved the house, the design, the location and all the finishing touches. Very tempted to come back in the summer.

Great property for visiting the outstanding west Cornwall classic locations…Porthcurno & the Minack Theatre, seals at Mutton Cove, the beauty of Mousehole, and numerous great circular walks on The Lizard and Lands End peninsulas.

Amazing location and superb hospitality from everyone from moment we booked.

Ten wonderful days - great views in the morning, meals in the evening inside and out. Exploring secret beaches & local walks - many thanks.
