So-called due to facing east and witness to spectacular sunrises over the Lizard, this stunning retreat, once home to a renowned artist, is set back on a quiet lane, surrounded by woodland and fields, yet is just a five-minute walk down to Mousehole harbour.
As you enter First Light from the conservatory, you'll discover an oasis of calm, where luxury living gives way to the coastal vista; an escape from every day that invites pure relaxation.
Inside, stunning interiors await, with two exquisite bedrooms in the main house and a further bedroom with en suite bathroom in the former artist's studio with jaw-dropping sea views. There's a wonderful conservatory to make the most of the exquisite views, whilst a cosy sitting room is just perfect for cooler weather.
The beautiful garden which extends to half an acre is a sheer delight and the highlight of this incredible homestay. Tiered gardens afford stunning sea vistas to be gazed at for hours, whilst the hot tub is a just a delight, waiting to envelop you in its soothing waters.
This is a wonderful home from which to explore the far west of Cornwall, from Penzance to St Ives and beyond, and with two car spaces, such a rarity in this seaside village, parking is a doddle!
Living
The astonishing conservatory is the perfect spot for whiling away an afternoon in cooler weather on the comfy blue sofa and occasional chairs - whether you're storm watching, enjoying morning coffee or indulging in a blissful afternoon tea (remember - jam first!)
Head inside the house and a luxurious, cosy sitting room awaits, where two sumptuous sofas await to relieve tired legs after a busy day walking the coastal path or time on the beach. There's a cosy, flickering wood burner that's a wonderful sight whatever time of year, inviting you to snuggle up, take off your shoes and relax with a good book or a glass of something special. If you need a little entertainment, there's a Smart TV WITH Freeview, Netflix and Amazon whilst a Bose Soundlink Bluetooth speaker is at hand to play you your favourite holiday playlist.
Eating
The kitchen, situated next to the sitting room, is fully equipped with everything you'll need to rustle up feasts, whether it's the freshest of seafood picked up from Newlyn or a hoard of goodies from a farm shop. There's an electric cooker with double oven and induction hob, large American fridge freezer with chilled water and ice, large housekeeper's cupboard, dishwasher and all the other essentials. You can find the washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility area.
The dining table can be found in the incredible conservatory, offering spectacular views of St Michael's Mount and all the way to the end of the Lizard. Whatever time of day the views are sublime, whether it's the palest pink sky of dawn, the bright sunshine of midday or the inky night sky, dotted with stars reflecting on the water. This is a wonderful spot for meals; perfect for celebrations and dinner parties, or romantic meals à deux.
Sleeping and bathing
There are three delightful bedrooms to choose from.
The first two are in the main house, with the first bedroom having gorgeous dual aspect windows, a stunning king size bed with lustrous gold velvet headboard, dressing table and storage.
The second bedroom is just lovely in shades of teal, with the original feature fireplace and a sumptuous double bed to retreat to at the end of a busy day exploring, from which you can look out to sea and watch the boats go by.
These two bedrooms share a fabulous shower room with stunning stone sink.
The third bedroom sits in the former artist's studio, separate to the main house. With a zip and link bed, this can be made either into twin beds or a fabulous super king-sized bed. With stunning views over the sea and Mousehole, this is an oh-so-romantic bolthole for those seeking their own private space. This has a fantastic en suite shower room, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.
All the beds come swathed in luxurious linens, oh-so-soft bedding and sumptuous throws and cushions to ensure a blissful nights' sleep. The shower rooms have heated rails to ensure towels are kept warm and fluffy.
Outside space
Just wow! The incredible garden, largely created by the renowned artist, is just a dream waiting to be discovered. Blessed with stunning sea views and bountiful flowers, this truly is an idyllic spot and the perfect space to while away lazy afternoons. Gorgeously terraced, you'll discover a wonderful fire pit (which turns into a barbeque) with three large benches, perfect for wrapping up, drinking hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows as the stars appear above and the lights glisten over the harbour. For lazy sunny afternoons, there are the gorgeous swinging Dream seats and loungers for sprawling, whilst for ultimate relaxation head for the bubbling hot tub - the ideal spot for gazing out over the sea. In addition, there's an undercroft complete with table tennis, bean bags and benches - perfect for competitive tournaments.
Parking
Amazingly rare for Mousehole, First Light comes with two car parking spaces to accomodate one large and one medium car! You can also access First Light via the lanes behind Mousehole avoiding the centre - a real bonus if it is busy.
Babies and children
Babies and children are most welcome at First Light, and a highchair and travel cot can be provided on request. Please be aware that the garden is terraced, and young children must be supervised at all times. There are also two small shallow water features in the grounds.
Dogs
Two well behaved dogs are welcome at First Light. The cottage has plenty of public footpaths on its doorstep over the fields with spectacular views over Mounts Bay. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
In the Area
Wow - what a spot to stay in! There are simply tons of things to see and do right on your doorstep. Nestled in the wild west of Cornwall in the beautiful village of Mousehole, you're just a five-minute walk from the harbour, lined with fabulous eateries such as 2 Fore Street, The Old Coastguard and the Hole Food Deli. Take the pretty little footpath through the woodland down the side of the Tumble Tyn stream into the heart of the village - the perfect cut through for nipping down for a swim in the harbour! The South West Coastal Path passes through here, so for a walk on your doorstep, take the path west towards Lamorna Cove for spectacular views. Alternatively, pop into your car and head around towards Land's End where you'll find the Minack Theatre - an outdoor theatre with the sea as it's backdrop. Make sure to see if a performance if you can. Head to Sennen for a spot of surfing and a bite to eat or follow the coastal road - one of the most picturesque stretches in Cornwall - around to St Ives, the artist hot-spot and iconic fishing town. Alternatively, head east and visit the famous fishing village of Newlyn and pick up some fresh fish to cook back at home. Carry on and there's the famous town of Penzance - make sure to check out Jubilee Pool in the summer; a gorgeous Art Deco lido which uses seawater. Further along is iconic St Michael's Mount, a perfect day out where you can walk over to the Mount when the tide is low or catch the boat across when it's high.
