A masterclass in luxury living and vintage elegance, our Architectural Digest and Sheer Luxe featured period homestay promises a quintessential escape for up to twelve guests in the heart of the Cornish countryside. Former home of the abstract artist Barrie Cooke, Moorlands has been beautifully renovated throughout by interior design duo Penrose Tilbury, playfully marrying romance and glamour with a charming array of timeless antiques sourced from all over the country. From a divine deVOL-designed kitchen, six sophisticated bedrooms and seven luxurious bathroom suites adorned with handmade tiles and vintage Murano lighting, a well-equipped gym, and finally, a meticulously landscaped botanical garden with an inviting natural swimming pool and a wood-clad sauna shaded by swaying trees, Moorlands is a dream retreat for multi-generational family staycations and sumptuous soirées with friends. Whether you're cosied beside the wood burning stove set within a striking Italian marble fireplace or toasting celebratory occasions in the alluring formal dining room, our enchanting Cornish promises the perfect getaway to reset your life balance. Set in the midst of Mullion, a quaint country village on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, Moorlands offers a delightful rural position yet resides only a brief distance from a cluster of oceanside destinations, from the stunning turquoise waters of Kynance Cove, to the golden sands of Polurrian.


Living, Kitchen and Dining

A grand welcome awaits you at Moorlands, where a Parisian chequer marbled hallway leads to an array of glamorous spaces.

Discover the heavenly open plan living room and kitchen, painted in a calming plaster pink and adorned with opulent Murano wall lights. Drawing the eye in the living room is the remarkable antique marble fireplace, where a wood burning stove ensures a cosy spot to exist around the scalloped onyx coffee table. The heart of the home with space for all to gather, choose from an array of sumptuous seating, from an original Howard Keith chaise, an olive-toned mid-century banana sofa and charcoal velvet art deco armchairs.

A picture of classic English elegance, the timeless bespoke kitchen by deVOL is the heart of the home, where a beautiful vintage haberdashers table seating twelve takes centre stage, inviting for intimate social gatherings of every occasion. A sumptuous space for creating culinary treasures with blush pink marble worktops and shaker cabinetry, you'll find all you could require for exquisite home banquets in the kitchen, including an ivory Lacanche induction oven, a fluted butler's sink, Perrin and Rowe boiling water tap, a Fisher and Paykal integrated double fridge with a freezer drawer, a Sage Bambino coffee machine, an Aarke carbonator and a Miele dishwasher. There is also a Robert's radio to accompany the chefs of the party.

For the screen enthusiasts, a colour-drenched blue snug with a Soho Home L-shaped tobacco-toned sofa and original artwork be found along the downstairs corridor, where a multitude of streaming services can be accessed via the Smart TV, set within bespoke alcoves. Here you'll also find a selection of board games for those who prefer traditional entertainment.

Set at the far end of Moorlands is the striking formal dining room. Set beside two antique mirrored display cabinets is an oak table for twelve, gathered by mid-century chairs. At the opposite end of the space is a chic seating area with velvet fringed knoll sofas and a vintage glass coffee table, whilst a set of patio doors lead to the charming outdoor fireplace space. Here you'll also find the thoughtful addition of a record player, with a collection of vinyl for you to peruse.

A tranquil space for creative minds, discover the muse-worthy office space, painted in a cocooning terracotta-hue. This dedicated workcation space is complete with an antique hand painted desk, a grandfather clock and a reclaimed Art Noveau feature fireplace.

Finally, you'll find the serene utility space/boot room, where within bespoke cabinetry you'll find a washing machine and tumble dryer, along with a sink inset into marble.


Sleeping and bathing

You'll find six equally gorgeous bedrooms to choose from at Moorlands, each with an en suite with the exception of the twin bedroom.

The epitome of sophistication with a regal Neptune four poster bed and a king size mattress by Soho home is the master bedroom, where sage-hued walls and artwork by Lily Fine ensure a soothing setting for slumber. A sweet gingham sofa offers a tempting reading nook, whilst a hand-painted pine wardrobe, two vintage marble-topped bedside tables and an antique burlwood chest of drawers ensure plenty of space to store your belongings. In the elegant en suite is a walk-in Lefroy Brooks shower and basin by Water Monopoly.

In the newly renovated part of the retreat, discover two further double bedrooms, each with terracotta upholstered headboards and Soho Home mattresses. Each of these calming bedroom spaces promises twin marble-topped bedside tables, a set of mahogany wood drawers an occasional velvet slipper chair. Each of the en suites are adorned with Moroccan striped Zelligge tiles- perfectly complementing the luxurious carpet within the bedroom spaces.

A dreamy combination of pinks and greens, the fourth bedroom is effortlessly romantic. Framed by vintage pink glass Murano wall lights is a marble feature fireplace, whilst a king-sized bed with a Soho Home mattress tempts for lingering-lie ins. In addition, there is a hand painted pine wardrobe, twin Soho Home Mappa Burl bedside tables and an occasional boucle armchair. The darling en suite is adorned with bespoke Victorian-inspired tiles and complete with a Lefroy Brooks shower and a Burlington sink.

Soothing in blue shades with mahogany accents, the fifth bedroom features a striking upholstered headboard and king-sized bed with a Soho Home mattress, embraced by two antique bedside tables. Additionally, there is an occasional chair, a chest of drawers and a bespoke built-in wardrobe with pretty curtains. A sumptuous arched walk-in Burlington rainfall shower awaits in the en suite. Adorned with sweet Ottoline Devries wallpaper and Beata Heuman wall lights, the final twin bedroom is a cosy space to reside, with matching upholstered beds with Soho Home mattresses, bow-adorned antique Victorian drawers and an art-noveau feature fireplace.

Self-care heaven resides in the stunning family bathroom, set next to the twin bedroom, where the Paris freestanding bathtub by Water Monopoly is an opulent setting to while the hours in bubble-topped bliss. Overhead is a rainfall shower, whilst tucked in the corner is a chic La Chapelle console basin - both by Lefroy brooks.

Downstairs near the hallway entrance, discover te glamorous Zelligge-clad powder room, with a WC and classic Lefroy Brooks basin.

Each bathroom at Moorlands has the addition of a heated towel rail and Commune toiletries - there is also underfloor heating throughout the entire retreat.


Gym

Moorlands promises the luxurious addition of a splendid home gym space with a Peloton bike, a selection of dumbbells, a bench and resistance bands, whilst impact-absorbing flooring is a wonderful addition for those seeking to maintain a Pilates regime whilst on staycation.


Outdoor space

Offering staycation scenes reminiscent of summers spent in the Tuscan countryside, the ethereal, garden space at Moorlands promises a sanctuary for the whole family to enjoy. A wraparound patio promises a plethora of curated spaces to unwind and entertain, including a charming, tiled coffee table, stone benches, a Neptune Cheltenham lounger set for six, and a bespoke, galvanised ironing table for twelve. Whether you're seeking afternoon aperitifs beneath the vine-wrapped pergola or candlelit evenings gathered around the outdoor stone fireplace with your kin, our Cornish country homestay is simply magical in all seasons. Beyond the patio is the spacious lawn for those seeking a space to sunbathe or play, whilst towards the edge of the garden near the apple orchard awaits the spellbinding natural swimming pool, which is available from the Easter holidays through to the end of October half term for rejuvenating dips. Adjacent is a separate sun-soaked seating area, an enchanting spot for summer cocktails until sunset, where you'll find a MADE outdoor corner sofa with green striped cushions and four Neptune sun loungers. Meander through Moorlands' beautifully designed botanical gardens and up a flight of granite steps to find the jet-black, electric sauna - the perfect addition to restore the senses in the wild. In addition, you'll find a Green Egg XL firepit, an outdoor kitchen with sink, and two rainfall showers.

Parking

There is private, off-road parking for up to four cars at Moorlands. In addition, there is on-street parking available at all times.


In the Area

Nestled in the pretty rural village of Mullion in Cornwall, Moorlands is uniquely positioned to uncover an array of charming cafes and fine dining bistros set in the surrounding area. Bringing authentic Thai cuisine to Cornwall's pastoral countryside is Jumanjy, where within a traditional granite exterior resides island-inspired corners and fragrant flavours. For those seeking casual dining close to some of the Lizard's most famed beauty spots, Mora Beach Café at Kennack Sands promises a delightful daytime menu and the option to learn to surf, or alternatively indulge in ocean views, beach strolls and heavenly hot chocolates at Poldhu beach café. Stray off the beaten path for alfresco lunches at Ellie's Soul Kitchen, found on the approach to Kynance Cove, or alternatively head straight to the fairytale National Trust spot to simply wander silky shores or admire the emerald isles from a cosy corner of the café - open all year round. For fine dining opportunities, take the 15-minute drive to Porthleven for artfully arranged Asian-influenced dishes and picturesque harbourside vistas at Kota, whilst further afield in Trelowarren awaits Michelin green-starred New Yard Restaurant and Flora Cafe, offering a soothing ambience and a menu largely foraged on the estate. For those seeking memorable days out, a wealth of coastal pursuits resides on Lizard Peninsula, including the aforementioned Kynance and Poldhu beach. Closest to Moorlands is Mullion Cove, whilst a 20-minute drive will take you to Gunwalloe Church Cove and Dollar Cove, where you can uncover the smuggling lore and rugged beauty of this Poldark-featured destination. For staycation pursuits a little more niche, Trenance Chocolate Factory tempts with Cornish-made sweet treats, whilst working dairy farm Roskilly's in St Keverne is a dreamy day out for the whole family. Further afield, discover the sub-tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, or seek storybook scenes and old-world charm at Cadgwith Cove and Coverack.
