Out & About

The largest village on the Lizard, our luxury cottages in Mullion have plenty to draw discerning guests looking for a taste of the wild whilst still enjoying utmost luxury. With the ancient Grade I listed St Mellanus Church at its heart and home to a 19th century fishing harbour, the village enjoys a thriving community feel filled with local shops, tearooms and galleries. Encompassed by sprawling countryside that runs down to the meet the sea, Mullion is a real haven and is as perfect for cosy winter retreats curled up by a crackling fire as it is for idyllic summer holidays.

Lay on the sandy chest of Poldhu Beach and trace absent-minded patterns in the sand before cooling off with a dip in the sea. Trace the rolling South West Coast Path, spot sailing boats on the horizon and seals in the coves and uncover the incomparable beauty of the Lizard Peninsula. With an abundance of natural beauty spots nearby and the luxuriousness of a Boutique Retreat to come home to, you will be totally swept away by this little corner of paradise.

For food-lovers, Mullion is a great choice. Home to an impressive number of eateries and cafés, you will be able to tickle your taste buds with culinary sensations from the South West to the Far East. For home-cooked comforts, take a seat at the Village Restaurant or for something a little more exotic, try the Cornish Curry Company or Jumunjy Thai Cuisine at the Old Post Office. For a delicious cream tea with awe-inspiring panoramics, go to Polurrian Hotel – the view will speak for itself.

As well as restaurants, there are lots of shops in the village, including the Colroger Deli, that offer a wide choice of fresh goods for you to take home to your boutique bolthole. Sample local produce and pick up old favourites, stopping off at Mullion’s Chocolate Factory for a mouth-watering bag of goodies. Lovingly prepared by local chocolatiers, you can choose from a delicious range of Belgian chocolate bars, mixed shapes and luxury filled chocolates and truffles.

Sometimes, you just can’t beat an aromatic cup of coffee to wake you up in the morning or a steaming cup of tea to revive you in the afternoon. Fortunately, Mullion Meadows Coffee Shop offers just the place to go – careful though, it’ll be hard to resist the tantalising array of chocolates paraded in the neighbouring chocolate shop!

For a hot drink with a side of panoramas, the Poldhu Beach Café offers a superb setting. Open 363 days a year, nothing will beat cooling off in the summer than with an ice-cold drink from the café or warming up in winter after an invigorating surf than with one of their ridiculously indulgent signature hot chocolates.

The Old Inn Pub is also a welcoming venue, perfect for its beer garden in summer and crackling fires in winter. A traditional thatched pub, the dog-friendly Old Inn is steeped in history with roots dating back to the 16th century. Enjoy an ice-topped G&T or local ale before making your way to back to your luxury accommodation and kicking back.

Nestled in a western crook of the Lizard Peninsula, Mullion has an envy-inducing catalogue of natural beauty spots within a stone’s throw of its centre. Whether you are savouring every minute of a whirlwind short break or relishing a much-anticipated fortnight away, you need to visit Mullion Cove. Just below the village, the cove shelters the village’s harbour and is still a refuge for a small number of fishing boats. Either side of your visit to the cove, make sure you grace Poldhu beach with some of your time too – you won’t be disappointed.

Further away, a 6-mile drive will take you to the world-famous Kynance Cove, where towering rocky outcrops rise from glimmering seas. When the tied is out, the beach is often covered by powdery soft sand, great for sunbathing, and has a number of little pools that youngsters can play in. Just beyond Kynance in the Lizard village, you will find Polpeor, mainland Britain’s most southerly point. Topped off with two cafés, including the most southerly café in Britain, it’s a superb spot to while away the hours simply watching the hypnotic roll of waves down below.
