Tucked away down a quiet hedgerow-lined country lane, this glorious retreat for six is so peaceful, with breathtaking views over rolling fields across to Mullion Cove. Originally the Mine Captain's cottage, it's blissfully quiet and a designated Dark Skies area, the house is set within a pretty cottage garden, where delicate flowers nod in the sea breeze. This lovely granite clad retreat is much bigger than it first appears - step through the front door and you'll find stunning interior-designed rooms which are warm and welcoming; totally contemporary in design yet wholly in keeping with its heritage and gorgeous original features. Lyonesse just perfect for a family holiday, a group of friends or a couple wanting lots of space and quietude - and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle reportedly stayed here too, so you're in good company!

Living

Country meets coastal in the calming, well-appointed living space - the oldest part and the heart of the home with bags of character. With a low beamed ceiling, inglenook with large wood burning stove, wooden floor and thick, whitewashed walls you can really see the history behind this home. Coupled with luxurious velvet Loaf sofas, geometrically-patterned rug, fabulous art work and well thought out finishing touches, this is a room that's cosy in winter and blissfully cool on the hottest of summer days. You'll find an additional snug/TV room or den tucked away to the back of the house - ideal for kids wanting their own space to catch up with a film or two and play games, or for someone wanting a quiet hour or two by themselves. We just love the wood burning stove which lies between the snug and the small office space - a perfect spot if you need to catch up with work or homework.

Eating

Experienced and amateur chefs alike will love the kitchen at Lyonesse. With a fabulous black Aga to keep you super-warm during winter months (avaliable to use between beginning of November to to the end of March), there's also a sturdy range gas cooker, huge Smeg fridge/freezer and all the other essential equipment you'll need to whip up meals in this incredibly spacious kitchen with marble worktops and cool tiled floor. Next door there's a handy utility - great for storing wetsuits and surfboards. There are two excellent dining spaces - one in the pretty conservatory overlooking the garden and the other in the main living space. The conservatory is perfect for breakfasts and lunches, whilst the grand, metal-topped table in the living area is made for long dinners over candlelight. Of course, during the summer months you can make the most of the warm weather with a spot of alfresco dining.

Aga

In the beautiful kitchen, you will find a fabulous black Aga to keep you super-warm during winter months (available to use between November to March). If you would like use of the Aga during your stay, please get in touch and we can get this arranged for you.

Bathing

Each bedroom is en suite with the master bedroom boasting a bathroom with roll-top freestanding bath plus a large walk-in shower. The second and third bedrooms have en suite shower rooms. In addition, you'll find a loo downstairs next to the snug/office space.

Sleeping

There are three stunning bedrooms to choose from at Lyonesse. The master bedroom is en suite and has dual-aspect windows looking out over the countryside and out towards the sea and Mousehole, whilst the huge super king bed is incredibly comfy and will guarantee an excellent nights' sleep. The original fireplace, travelling case and eye-catching artwork are a real highlight. The second en suite bedroom, also with dual-aspect windows, has a king size bed, original fireplace, gorgeous window seat overlooking the countryside and towards Mullion Cove whilst the lovely third en suite bedroom has twin beds, large roof windows and impressive vaulted ceiling.

Outdoor space

The outdoor area is just gorgeous, with a traditional cottage garden to the front (complete with garden gate) - perfect for sitting in with a morning coffee. Adjacent to the house, accessed by crossing the public footpath, is a lovely spot slightly raised at one end with a terrace, table and chairs so you can lunch and gaze out to sea at the same time - just perfect! Little ones will love looking for the hidden well (don't worry - it's completely safe!) whilst adults will enjoy this peaceful little corner of paradise.

Parking

There is private parking for up to three cars at Lyonesse to either side of the property.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Lyonesse:

A beautiful cottage, in a stunning location, a short walk or drive from everything the incredible Lizard has to offer - and, in a way that's fairly unique for holiday cottages, all the 'stuff' (the knives, the champagne flutes, etc.) is brilliant, too. Just a gorgeous, gorgeous place, and we miss it already.

This is a great location. We really enjoyed the walks right out the door, especially at sunrise and sunset. It’s a very spacious and comfortable home with a marvellous kitchen and solarium. Thank you

We had a wonderful weekend at Lyonesse. It’s in a lovely location with beautiful walks straight from the front door. Stunning interior, extremely well equipped, very comfy beds and the wood burning stove was a dream!

A really lovely house with everything we needed.

Lyonesse provides a lovely escape . We thoroughly enjoyed the house, its decor, garden and location.

Amazing house, very spacious, lovely location close to coastal path!

A wonderful home from home experience.

This is a wonderful house to stay in, with plenty of space and all the facilities and equipment you need. It is tastefully decorated. We spent most of our time in the large conservatory but the cosy lounge area was good for the evenings. The beds are comfortable and each room has its own en suite. It is quiet as it's in a rural location and is only a ½ mile walk to the coast. Would thoroughly recommend this house.

Very comfortable and so spacious for 6 people which is really unusual for a self catered property. The kitchen with conservatory was warm and the heart of the house. A joy to walk into.

We spent a very comfortable and relaxing week in this beautiful and well equipped house. It's in a stunning location with walks along the coast on the door step.

We would highly recommend Lyonesse to anyone with its space and relaxing house & garden. Wonderful and interesting area.

We loved Lyonesse! Such a perfect set-up for an adult getaway where we could all have our own space in the lovely interiors, but also could be great with kids. Walking straight out the front door onto the coastal path was just what we hoped for with a Cornish escape.

For a quiet, peaceful and luxurious break, this cottage is hard to beat.

This is a beautifully decorated spacious and very comfortable cottage especially for an autumn get away. Well located for coastal walking and visiting some of the Cornish gardens villages and small towns.

This was a gorgeous introduction to Cornwall. The whole family loved the house and being on the Lizard.

The cottage is a true luxury, escape city and immerse yourself with nature. Stunning decor creates lovely vibe, fully equipped house provides all you need but the most important is the location and proximity to the sea.. the fresh air, the local walks, our family of 4 plus grandparents had the best week away.

A lovely cottage - beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We had a delightful stay and would happily re-book.Great to be right on the SW coast path with access to gorgeous walks.

This is an extremely comfortable, stylish house, and is genuinely a short walk to the beautiful Lizard Coast Path. All of the bedrooms are spacious and comfy, and there are several living spaces to choose from (unusual in a house for six people).

A beautifully appointed cottage in a spectacularly peaceful location. We had a goal to walk the entire length of the Lizard Coast Path during our stay and I looked forward to my post walk soak each day in the master bathroom’s slipper bathtub which overlooked the cows grazing in the nearby fields and the gorgeous rugged coastline beyond. Absolute bliss!!

'The finish was lovely - I wanted to buy copies of all the artwork and soft furnishings...and being able to just step out of the door walk to the coast was a real treat. Thank you' - October 2020
