Step through the front door and you'll find yourself in a beautifully petite love nest. Light greys coordinate with black, creating a cosy, hidden-away feel with a touch of Victoriana about it. We love the huge mirrors, black lampshades, wood burning stove and fab antiquities such as the medicine bottles - a nod to Apothecary Cottage's original incarnation as the chemist for the village - and impressive lighting. This is a chic retreat, a lover's getaway in a terrific location to explore the delights of Somerset, such as the Mendip Hills, Wells, Glastonbury and the pretty coastline. The village of Wedmore is pretty and just a short walk away with a host of places to eat and shop.

Living and eating

The ground floor is open-plan, with the snug living room to the front of the property. A vintage sofa for two lies close to the log burner - perfect for snuggling up on after a walk on the Mendips. A television is on hand should you want to catch up on a series or have a film night. Head towards the back and you'll find the fab kitchen - extremely well-equipped for such a small cottage, including a coffee maker for a morning brew and pretty Sophie Conran tableware. We love the soft greys of the cupboards and the warm wooden worktops, whilst the hand-made dining table, cute and romantic for two, is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two.

Sleeping

Climb the striking wrought-iron spiral staircase and you'll find yourself in the pretty en suite bedroom, where vaulted ceilings and windows that overlook the village and the distant Mendip Hills await. The super-comfy king size bed makes for long lie-ins whilst we love the fab antique lighting high above - cleverly created by the ingenious owners.

Bathing

The en suite shower room has a surprisingly spacious shower to wake you up in the mornings. The sink area is just stunning with a reclaimed vanity table, sink and striking vintage newspaper wallpaper, all in shades of black, cream and grey.

Outdoor space

To the back lies a small open courtyard garden, with a bistro table and two chairs ideal for a sundowner or alfresco breakfast on warm summer days. The garden is not an enclosed space, but a long leash is provided for your canine companions.

Setting

As Apothecary Cottage is found near to the heart of the vibrant village of Wedmore, some road noise is to be expected at times.

WiFi

Apothecary Cottage has WiFi so if you need to stay in contact with the outside world, you can.

Dogs

Two small well-behaved dogs are very welcome at Apothecary Cottage. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

Parking

There is parking for two cars to the rear of the cottage.

In the Area

Apothecary Cottage is situated in the picture-box pretty village of Wedmore, sometimes called the Isle of Wedmore, due to being in an elevated position on the Somerset Levels. It's just a short walk from the cottage to the centre of the village where you'll find two wonderful places to eat - The George Inn, a Grade II listed former home, and The Swan, run by executive chef Tom Blake from River Cottage. There's also a host of other eateries from cafes to delis, alongside lots of shops including Wedmore Village Store where you can pick up lots of locally-produced goodies to take back to the cottage.

Head to Wilkin's Cider Farm for a traditional Somerset experience. Sample the golden stuff (on the house) then pick up a bottle or two to take home with you. The Mendip Hills are just a short drive away and a must-do; the walking here is fantastic, and you'll witness the most beautiful views. Glastonbury is also a short drive away and a must-see for the Tor, Abbey and Sacred Well. The city of Wells is just down the road and has a beautiful cathedral and a fab market. Bath is a 55-minute drive away and great to visit during longer stays. Wooky Hole Caves, with over 60,000 years of history and Cheddar Gorge, a limestone gorge set in the Mendip Hills, are both wonderful natural landmarks and well worth a visit.

The height of cottage-chic, this gorgeously bijoux, romantic pad for two is in a totally fab location and four-legged friends are welcome too.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Apothecary Cottage:

Lovely cottage in a very pretty village. Thoroughly recommend the Swan pub, great food and atmosphere.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Apothecary cottage. It was thoughtfully decorated, comfortable and well-equipped. The village of Wedmore is very pretty, with a wide range of shops and eating places for its size.

A lovely little cottage - ideal for a couple people, in a great location. The village of Wedmore has a fabulous pub called The Swan, a great indian and thai restaurant as well as handy village shop. We stayed there and went walking in the Quantocks and the Mendip Hills - not far off the M5 yet set in the beautiful rolling hills of Somerset - highly recommended.

Fantastic, cosy, comfortable and well-appointed property, it was just perfect in every way and everything that we hoped it would be and was in a great position to explore the area and it was always lovely to return to Apothecary Cottage after a day out; Highly recommended.

Apothecary Cottage is a real gem! Located in a wonderful village, superbly renovated by the owners to a very high standard. It really is a home from home in every sense. Bijou, idyllic for two and a little canine companion if you have one. Equipped with everything you need for a totally relaxing vacation at any time of the year.

Beautiful cottage and location.

A lovely cottage with everything you could need. The owners have clearly thought carefully about what a lovely break away means to people. Would recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay and all the lovely treats left for us. The cottage is in a great location in the beautiful village of Wedmore and very close to lovely places to visit such as Wells and Cheddar. The bed was super comfortable and we had everything we needed including a Nespresso coffee machine which we can't do without. The George has now reopened and we had a lovely meal there. We also enjoyed Roots restaurant in Wells. Thank you Tracey for all your attention to detail.

A perfect bolt hole for a weekend away. The cottage was charming and exceedingly well equipped for such a tiny space! The welcome hampers (both for us and the dog) were a lovely touch. Fantastic location within a beautiful village with excellent facilities, including two first rate pubs. Would highly recommend.

Simply wonderful. Perfect accommodation.

A very beautiful and comfortable cottage. Attention to detail is outstanding. The area is a perfect location to explore the wider region. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend if looking for a very relaxing and 'get away from it all' break. Perfect!

Gorgeous cosy cottage in a fabulous location. The owner clearly has a good eye for detail & was easily contactable when needed.

Perfect retreat for two people - well equipped to a very high standard. Thank you to the owner and Boutique Retreats...

We had a lovely short break. The cottage was very cosy and we would recommend it.

A really lovely cottage exactly as shown on the website. Lovely comfy bed. Easy walk to the village pubs and shops. Dog friendly but only really for small dogs. Easy parking

What a delightful cottage, everything we needed was there. The location is fabulous with great shops, pubs and walks.

Amazing location - Wedmore is a lovely village. Compact, but well-resourced cottage.

A delightful cottage with a perfect use of the limited space. The village location has everything you need. This must be one of the best kept cottages we have ever stayed in.

A perfect retreat, situated on the edge of the village and well placed to visit numerous attractions in Somerset. A beautifully decorated cottage, small but cosy, and it suited us down to the ground. We had a great time in Wedmore. However, be advised that The George seems to have closed down so don’t bank on eating out there!

Absolute gorgeous cottage. Beautifully decorated and an amazing setting in a quintessential English village. The swan pub delivers great food and drinks. Atmosphere is great. Worth every penny.

Our second stay at this delightful cottage. Filled with lovely things and Thankyou for our champagne and chocolates! Centrally located for Cheddar Gorge, and Wells Cathedral is beautiful they have a market there Wednesday and Saturdays as well, also visited Burnham-On-Sea they have the smallest pier in the U.K. ! Wookey Hole was brilliant!

Visited The New Inn and short walk away open mic Night on a Tuesday ( excellent bands and people) and a steak night on Wednesday!
We both felt very welcomed in this gorgeous cottage and totally enjoyed our stay !

A stunning cottage in an incredible location. My boyfriend (now fiancé) proposed here! It truly was an amazing stay!

Bijou but beautiful. Tastefully decorated. Quiet location on the edge of a vibrant village. Champagne and chocolates gratefully received after a long journey. A joy to stay here.

Apothecary cottage is exquisite; small, beautifully decorated, with real attention to detail. It was a very romantic cottage and the owner had taken real pride in the interior. It's in a good location for stunning walks in the Mendip Hills. Wedmore village is quiet but full of life, with an excellent bistro at the Swan.
