Strewn with meandering medieval streets and a spectacular early English gothic cathedral, Salisbury is an incredibly historic city, packed with character and plenty to see and do.

No visit would be complete without a visit to the city’s jewel in its crown, the impressive, 123 metre spired cathedral. For spectacular views, take the Tower Tour and climb the 332 steps to witness the magnificent cityscape. Afterwards, stroll through the peaceful Cathedral Close and the riverside gardens of Arundells, home of former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.

Shoppers will love the Charter Market, which dates back 800 years and is held every Tuesday and Saturday in Salisbury Market Place, and a host of independent shops to explore. History lovers will find the Salisbury Museum a fascinating experience – check out the Wessex Gallery which has a host of artefacts from Stonehenge, just eight miles away.

To eat, there’s a plethora of choice, from quaint tea rooms and cafes through to fine dining. Head out in to the surrounding countryside for a host of ancient inns and pubs to quench the heartiest of appetites.
